  • Kansas sports betting update: soft launch period

    kansas sportsbook launch

Sports betting has officially kicked off in Kansas, and operators are getting ready for the official launch on September 8.

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission approved that sites can start getting customers to register. The soft launch is vital to troubleshoot potential issues in operator reporting software and transaction processing.

The Office of Governor Laura Kelly, 48th governor of Kansas, tweeted, “I just placed Kansas’ first legal sports wager. What did I bet on? Let’s just say that I’m really hoping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl this season — even more than usual:

DraftKings, Barstool Sports, BetMGM, Caesars, and PointsBet are all soft launching in the state. Some exciting events are happening regarding the launch. FanDuel will open a temporary retail sportsbook at the Kansas Star Casino, with a full opening on September 8. Former NFL wide receiver Jordy Nelson will place the ceremonial first bet on September 8 at the FanDuel Sportsbook at Kansas Star.

This launch makes the Sunflower State the fastest state to launch regulated sports betting. It beat Iowa, which launched 95 days after the legislation was signed into law, Arizona, which took 148 days, and Indiana, at 149 days. Twitter users have broadly praised Kansas’ legislators for launching so quickly. Many questioned whether bettors in other neighboring states, including Oklahoma and Missouri, might travel across state lines to place bets.

    Bet365 launches in Colorado

European gaming site bet365 has launched its online sportsbook in Colorado. At this point, there is bet365 NJ available, and also Colorado. In addition, they have applied to run statewide mobile betting in Ohio.

Launch on September 1 in Colorado, as well as the potential for market access in high-population. Sports-crazy states such as Ohio and Massachusetts could begin a new US push. Though it may never catch the market share of the major US operators, bet365 has the financial strength and tech capabilities to shake up the American sports betting status quo potentially. However, bet365 is a big name in Europe. They don’t come near names like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars in the USA.

Industry stakeholders and customers highly appreciate Bet365 for its cutting-edge interface and wide array of betting options. The privately held company is also believed to be very profitable as CEO and co-founder Denise Coats is one of the world’s most highly-compensated corporate executives. Because of its prominence and finances, bet365 has been rumored to potentially acquire a US brand before making an expansion effort in the states. Flutter Entertainment, another European gaming giant, acquired FanDuel in 2018 and it has since become America’s leader in gross gaming revenue market share.

This football season, the most lucrative time of the year for US sportsbooks, could be a key test of bet365’s American staying power. If it can jump ahead of many of these Colorado operators, nearly all of which have less financial and technical resources, it could bode well for future growth in new markets.
