  • Massachusetts sportsbook launch updates

    Sports betting stakeholders are showing interest in the Massachusetts market by applying before the state has become legal for sportsbook. DraftKings, WynnBet, and PointsBet are

    among the leading US sports betting operators that expressed interest in a Massachusetts sports betting license. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has been tasked with overseeing the promulgation of the state’s sports wagering industry after Governor Charlie Baker signed An Act to Regulate Sports Wagering into law on August 10, 2022.

    A full list of companies should be available within the next few days. Betr, BetFanatics, DraftKings, PlayUp, SI, Bally’s, PointsBet & WynnBet are among sportsbooks that have already expressed interest in a Massachusetts mobile sportsbook, according to state regulators. BetMGM, FanDuel & Caesars, among other expected applicants for the 15 licenses.

    Betr, the micro-betting startup backed by celebrity influencer and amateur boxer Jake Paul. Massachusetts is the second state Betr has applied for market access. The other was Ohio, which should be awarding its first licenses later this year. Read more about Betr in our article.

    BetFanatics is another startup looking to launch its first sportsbook. BetFanatics has also applied to run a retail sportsbook in Maryland and both online and retail books in Ohio. The company, which has still not announced a formal launch for its product, will possibly also apply for licensure in other existing markets. Read more about BetFanatics here.

    FanDuel, which estimates to account for more than 50% of US sports betting gross gaming revenue, most probably will also apply in Massachusetts. Other market leaders, including Caesars and BetMGM are also likely applicants.

    The state’s first online sportsbooks are expected to go live within six months. Once live, Massachusetts is set to have more legal online sports betting options than all other New England states combined.

    DraftKings launching online betting in Kansas

    Online sports betting in Kansas state is set to launch today officially, and DraftKings will be on the front line. If successful, Kansas will become the 18th state of operation for DraftKings. The online sportsbook product will be launched through Boot Hill Casino & Resort partnership. The DraftKings Sportsbook app will be available on iOS and Android devices, and you can place a bet on your favorite football game on the go. DraftKings co-founder and president Matt Kalish shared his excitement to deliver their award-winning products to Kansas sports fans for the 2022 NFL and college football seasons.

    To add, DraftKings will also be opening its permanent retail sportsbook at Golden Nugget Lake Charles in Louisiana today, September 1. The sportsbook will be the biggest in the Bayou State at 12,000 square feet. Including 3,200 square feet of LED televisions, 300 lounge seats, and separate VIP areas for viewing. Bettors can place their bets at ticket windows, and 30 self-service kiosks spread throughout the casino.
